About the Opportunity

Our client is a large, growth-oriented, product-driven organization with a national distribution footprint and significant annual revenue. The company operates a hub-and-spoke distribution model designed to balance service excellence with cost efficiency. As logistics and transportation capabilities continue to be brought in-house, this role will be instrumental in driving reliability, agility, and customer satisfaction across the supply chain.

  • Champion the insourcing of freight management and increased operational control.
  • Establish a national transportation governance framework, including KPIs, financial visibility, and accountability standards.
  • Provide executive leadership with data-driven insights to support operational and capital investment decisions.

Transportation & Fleet Management

  • Optimize fleet utilization, routing efficiency, mode selection, last-mile delivery performance, and driver productivity.
  • Leverage telematics, routing, and safety technologies to enhance performance and compliance.
  • Lead the selection and implementation of a Transportation Management System (TMS) to improve visibility, cost control, and execution.
  • Oversee carrier strategy, contract negotiations, routing guides, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, FMCSA, and safety regulations while promoting a strong safety culture.

Domestic & International Freight Operations

  • Collaborate with purchasing, sales, and product teams to develop a best-in-class inbound freight strategy.
  • Manage international container flow, port operations, drayage, and cross-dock execution.
  • Oversee domestic freight movements between ports, distribution hubs, and branch locations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in lead times, freight cost structures, and vendor compliance.

Network & Distribution Optimization

  • Partner with distribution center and branch leadership to balance service levels, cost, and inventory placement.
  • Evaluate and redesign network flows to support market expansion, acquisitions, and evolving customer delivery expectations.
  • Improve last-mile delivery and customer experience through tighter integration between transportation and warehouse operations.

Systems & Process Optimization

  • Oversee the integration and optimization of ERP, TMS, and telematics platforms to enable end-to-end visibility.
  • Develop dashboards and analytics to track freight spend, fleet productivity, and logistics KPIs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance scalability, efficiency, and execution discipline.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Build and lead a national logistics organization spanning transportation, fleet operations, and logistics planning.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce planning, talent development, and organizational alignment during periods of growth and change.

Required Qualifications
